Anne S. Rutland

ANNE S. RUTLAND, Local Director, retired in 2015 after twenty years’ service in the New York State Unified Court System. Most recently, she was the sole Court Attorney Referee for the Commercial Division, Eighth Judicial District from 2003. Prior thereto, she had the honor of serving as principal law clerk to the Honorable Leo J. Fallon (ret) at the Fourth Department and Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District, and the Honorable Eugene F. Pigott, Jr. at the Fourth Department. Upon her retirement, Rutland received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of NYSBA for her service to her Commercial Division.

Prior to moving to New York State, Ms. Rutland worked for the Superior Court of Massachusetts and the United States Bankruptcy Court in Boston, and practiced litigation at the firm of Day, Berry & Howard (now Day Pitney LLP). Ms. Rutland received her B.A. from the University of Michigan, and her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. This is Ms. Rutland’s second year as a Local Director for the Western New York Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association, for which she also serves on the Judiciary Committee.

Since retiring, Ms. Rutland has continued writing plays and commenced writing a dystopian novel.
