ANASTASIA M. McCARTHY, President-Elect and State Delegate, is an Associate in the Litigation Department at Hurwitz & Fine, P.C. where she defends retailers, business owners, property owners, schools, and employers against a wide variety of claims. She currently serves as co-chair of WBASNY WNY’s Legislative Committee. Anastasia also serves as a member of the Young Professionals Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara, and the Southern Tier. In 2019, she received an “Up and Coming Attorney” Award from the Daily Record and was named to the Upstate New York Super Lawyers Rising Stars List.
Anastasia received her Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the University at Buffalo Law School. While in law school, she served as a research assistant and was an active participant in the moot court program. She also co-founded and served as co-president of the Women of SUNY Buffalo Law, was president of the LGBTQ law student group OUTLaw, and was a member of the Buffalo Moot Court and a clerk on the Buffalo Environmental Law Journal.
Before heading to law school, Anastasia earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English literature and theatre from SUNY Geneseo. While studying at Geneseo, she was awarded the C. Agnes Rigney Award in writing drama and the Mary A. Thomas Award in poetry writing, and was inducted into Alpha Psi Omega, the theatre and dance honor society.
Anastasia is originally from Rochester. She and her wife now live in Williamsville with their daughter, Josie, and their cat, Ben.
