FLORINA ALTSHILER, State Director, is the managing attorney for the Buffalo, NY office of Russo & Toner LLP, specializing in litigation. She handles medical malpractice, labor law, premise and general negligence matters.
She is the exclusive Legal Analyst for WKBW ABC News. She has been quoted and published throughout the country, including the Chicago Tribune, the Daily Beast, the New York Law Journal and BBC. She frequently presents for Lawline, ClearLaw Institute, NITA, Buffalo Claims Association, Defense Trial Lawyers Association, and various Bar Associations throughout NYS State. In 2016, she was named to Above the Law’s Lawline Top 20 Female Faculty. She continues to serve as an instructor at Columbia University in the City of New York and Buffalo State College. She was selected as a Top Rated Civil Litigation Attorney and a Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine in 2017 and 2018. She has a perfect 10.0 rating by Avvo.
Prior to relocating to Buffalo, Ms. Altshiler served as a prosecutor for the State of Alaska, where she handled the prosecution of all levels of crime through jury trial and served on the homicide response rotation. She successfully prosecuted dozens of cases through jury verdict, including violent felonies and sexual assaults. In 2013, she received an Alaska State Legislature Citation for her work with the Anchorage High School Mock Trial program. She also continues to volunteer for the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Ms. Altshiler is very involved with the community. She was selected as a Harpur Law Council Steering Committee Appointee for the 2016 – 2019 term. She has been a Board Member of the North Buffalo Organization since 2015 and was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for Journeys End Refugee Services for the 2017-2019 term and on the Board of Directors for Crisis Services since 2017. She also continues to serve as an arbitrator for the Civil Court of the City of New York where she started in 2009. She previously served on the Associate Board of New York Legal Assistance Group in New York City where she was a litigator for the first decade of her career.
